Cubs Desperately Need A Win

Thumbnail image for ryandempster.jpg  It’s okay Dempster, we all have days like this.  Another rough loss for the Cubs.  We can look at it this way, we were playing the defending World Series champs and they just out played us, but in reality we need production from the hitters.  Ryan Theriot and Jeff Baker continue to be strong, but we need production from the rest of the lineup.  D. Lee has hit another cold spell and Soriano…we just don’t want to go there.

Let’s hope the incoming Pirates give us a chance to break this losing streak and get back onto winning some ball games.  With the Pirates comes Ronny Cedeno, for those that don’t remember him he played for the Cubs last year.  It will be good to see him again, hopefully Wells can keep him hitless. :)

I was looking at pictures from last year and the Cubs were a very happy team.  Why did we trade everyone away?  Oh well, hopefully we can turn things around, I’m not sure how we are staying in second right now, but we are still in this thing.  Go Cubs Go!

Final Score: Phillies 6 Cubs 1

Cubs Pounded By Pedro and Phillies

Another day, another blog about how we lost.  My poor Cubbies are banged up and hurting, I’m not sure we will even be able to make a run for first this year.  We would have to really start playing better.  Pull Soriano from the lineup, it’s not even his lack of offense for me, it’s the lazy way he plays left field.  I would rather pay him his millions to warm the bench.  The top of the order continues to produce and then there is Baker.

Jeff Baker is a surprise to me because he wasn’t hitting anything and now he is getting multiple hits.  I am happy for us, but I wish it were Fontenot doing so well. Of course if he never gets to play then we may never get to see what he can do.

The bleacher people usually just jeer at the outfielders, but someone threw a beer on Shane Victorino for catching Jake Fox’s fly ball.  Cubs fans are better than this!  We are lucky that the umpires didn’t make us pay for it.  The play was going to be made, Fox just didn’t get enough of the ball, but to actually attack a player like this…?!  That’s just ridiculous!  How would they feel if it had been one of the Cubs?  Grow up!  If Shane had dropped the ball it would have probably been ruled fan interference and a whole lot of bad could have happened.  So please keep in mind when you go to games that stuff like this is really uncalled for.  Then for him to watch everyone around get kicked out of the game before he did, he really should have stepped up and said it was him.

Just a little note, does anyone realize how great Ryan Theriot is? :)   This guy continues to play every game and get his hits.  I am glad to see him doing so well in leadoff and Bradley producing in the two hole.  I think that Bradley coming around is a little too late, but the one thing about Milton is the fact that even though his offense has sucked he has played a great RF.  This guy will run all out for the ball even if he doesn’t have a chance to make a play.  That is what we lack in LF.

Well, let’s hope today we can keep from getting swept, but I am not feeling very positive about it.  We need more production from the middle part of the order and we just aren’t getting it.  We can say it’s due to injuries, which we have a lot of, but other teams are playing broken, too. I also think the trades we made were terrible.  The Phillies win a World Series and barely change anything because they know their team is good, our team wins 97 games and the division for the second year and we change just about everything!  To me that makes no sense whatsoever. However, hopefully something will go our way. I will forever love this team, no matter what. Go Cubs Go!

Cubs Fight, But Lose In Extras

This blog is my first real game blog since coming back from Colorado.  Yahoo Sports pictures aren’t working right now, so it will be pictureless.  This was an odd game, Harden pretty much dominated through most of it, I have never seen him pitch so well.  Then Rollins tied it and Harden seemed to lose his command.

Carlos Marmol was his same erratic self and walked in a run giving them the lead, but we came back to tie it in the ninth, sending us to extra innings where it remained scoreless until the twelth when the Phillies got another homerun off Gregg and we couldn’t catch up.

How about Milton Bradley?  He had a 4-5 game in Colorado and numerous hits yesterday to go along with three amazing catches in right field.  He is finally starting to look like the player that we expected him to be the whole time.

Jeff Baker has really been showing some stuff, too.  He’ll see the majority of playing time at second, which is sad because I prefer Fontenot.  How can Fontenot fight for a position if he is stuck on the bench?  That being said, it is nice to see Jeff Baker producing for us finally.  I have questioned this trade since we made it.

Yesterday’s game was probably the only one we had a chance at winning against the Phillies, but hopefully the Cubbies will be swinging harder today and make some great plays to win.  With all of the injuries to our key players, it’s hard to make a run for the post season.  We are still in second, though, we just need to step up our game.

Then there is Ryan Theriot.  Holy crap this guy is amazing!  He has been in 105 games this year and doesn’t look like he is slowing down.  I believe there is still just one game he has been kept out of and he leads the team in three catergories…runs, stolen bases and average.  I knew last year that we had something special in him, this year everyone has come to the same conclusion.

Well, here is hoping that today goes better for us and we can get back on a winning streak.  Go Cubs Go!

Final Score (12 innings): Phillies 4 Cubs 3

Cubs Win Halts Phillies Streak

carloszambrano27.jpg  This blog is going to be another two for one because yesterday’s game wasn’t exciting enough to have it’s own blog, however, today’s game was great!  The Phillies winning streak halts at ten when the Cubs get thirteen hits and ten runs.  Zambrano pitched a great game, allowing five runs and striking out five.

My seven year old niece spent the night with me last night and when I got off work we were watching the game.  During the first inning I turned to her and asked how would the game turn out?  What would the score be?  She said the Cubs will win and the score will be Cubs 10 and Phillies 4 or 5.  Imagine how freaked out when I got to the end of the game and she was right!  Creepy! lol

When I started my blog this morning about yesterday’s game, I didn’t finish because I had to go to work, I was thinking that if the Cubs spent more time swinging their bats for hits instead of swinging for the fences we would get more runs that way.  Today, we got hits.  There were very few in the lineup that didn’t help, it was just an all around great effort.

They named Ryan Theriot as the Chevrolet Player of the Game.  He had three hits, one walk, three stolen bases and two runs.  It really was a great game for him.
ryantheriot23.jpg  It makes me happy to see him doing so well this year.  I knew that he would be a great player if he was given the chance and he has shown time and again that he belongs here.  Now in yesterday’s game he made me laugh, he played just about all the positions on the field.  Fielding a pop up on the third base foul line and then moving towards second for another.  I love how he just goes after everything, he’ll just keep getting better with time.  The Phillies commentators said that Theriot was a pain today, it’s good to see him on base so much that he could be a pain.

Rammy had a couple of hits in this game, with a couple of RBI’s, Lee singled and I didn’t think I would say this, but Bradley had a decent game.  I was impressed.  Maybe his time working with Piniella is making a difference.  Jeff Baker contributed in a big way with a double that resulted in three RBI’s due to an error on the Phillies side.

So the trades we made sucked, becoming more left handed didn’t help.  Though when Fontenot settles in, it will get better.  He can hit and he plays a great second base to Theriot’s shortstop.  Now we need to quit blaming our troubles on the crappy trades and injured players and start hitting like we are capable of.  Today’s game showed that we can do it with the lineup that we have.  If we stop trying to take just moon shots we’ll be more successful.  Go Cubs Go!  Enjoy your night off and let’s go beat the Reds!

Ryan Theriot Drives In Only Run In Slaughter

tedlilly2.jpg  Ted Lilly and the Cubs were thoroughly slaughtered in the first game against the Phillies.  I knew this series was going to be rough, but I didn’t realize how rough.

Lilly couldn’t hit his spots, whether it be due to his knee or just poor pitching, I’m not sure.  I don’t understand why we put our high ball starter in a park that obviously favors homeruns, especially to the Phillies.

I just hope tomorrow we can bring some offense.  Ryan Theriot is the only one that had a decent game, which was a perfect one with two walks and an RBI single.  Then he was pulled from the game.

Alfonso Soriano is still making me mad.  He misses balls he should catch and his lack luster actions make me think he just doesn’t want to be there.  I don’t want to think that is true so I’m hoping it’s not.  The ball that fell between Kosuke Fukudome and Alfonso Soriano would have been caught had Reed Johnson been in the game.  Free Reed!

Here is hoping tomorrow brings more runs.  Go Cubs go!

Final Slaughtering Score:  Phillies 10 Cubs 1
