Lee Does It Again!

derreklee32.jpg  AMAZING!! That is all I have to say.  I didn’t get to see this game, again, but Derrek Lee hit another two homeruns!  Keep hitting those for your kids. :)

I really hate trying to blog about games I don’t get to see.

Yesterday we lost to the Mets, however, we scored two runs which both were driven in by Geovany Soto!  It was great to see him getting some hits and driving in some runs.

I guess I can’t say much else because I didn’t get to see it.

Final Score Sunday: Mets 4 Cubs 2

Welcome Back, D. Lee

derreklee31.jpg  Again, congratulations to Derrek Lee and his wife on the birth of their son, Dylan.  He really came back with a bang.  Unfortunately, I didn’t get to see this game again, but D. Lee hit two homeruns to drive in three RBI’s and Rammy also had a homerun.  It’s not a shocker that these two are the power of the line-up.  That’s why we have been so off this year, with Rammy’s injury and all.  I mean, he has amazing stats and he has missed two months, that just goes to show you what kind of player he is and what he is capable of.  Next year is looking much better for us if we can keep these two healthy and on the field.

I was reading an article that said that Ryan Theriot, Mike Fontenot and Kosuke Fukudome were the only part of our starting lineup that did not have an injury that either sent them to the DL or required that they sit out for several games because of it this year.  In fact, Theriot still remains as the player who has appeared in the most games.  I think he has missed three, two because of the flu.  Hopefully next year we wont be plagued by the injury bug and can show what this lineup is truly capable of.  I also really hope that Fontenot has a better year because I would much rather see him out there with Theriot, than to see Baker.  I get to watch today’s game, but it will be off of recording because I will be at work when it starts.  Let’s pound on the Mets today to take the series!  Go Cubs Go!

Bats Dead In Makeup Game

ryantheriot32.jpg  Not much to say about this game.  Our bats weren’t just quiet, they were dead.  A couple of errors and no offense stopped Dempster from getting another win.  He didn’t pitch his best stuff, but he had held the White Sox to one run, so it’s sad that in the final innings they smacked us for five.

Ryan Theriot went hitless again, which is still very surprising to me.  I was also surprised to see Jake Fox at first instead of Micah Hoffpauir.  I know that we need Jake’s bat in there, but put him in left and put Micah on first.  Micah is a first baseman and would not have made the error Jake did, but in Jake’s defense he hasn’t played much first.

I am seriously hoping that they play Mike Fontenot and Ryan Theriot together again before the year is over and that I get to see it.  I miss having the Cajun Connection and they haven’t even played together that much this year.  It’s sad, really.

This picture was from the last game in the Astros series and it’s just mean. lol  Derrek is this towering six foot something and you have Mike who is just five foot around eight, he has to jump to reach Derrek’s hand. :)

Congratulations to Derrek Lee and his wife on the birth of their new baby.  I hope the family is doing well.

Now let’s go pound on the Mets!  Go Cubs Go!

Final Score: ChiSox 5 Cubs 0

Lilly Snares Tenth Win!

tedlilly4.jpg  Gotta love when the starting pitching is dead on.  Two games in a row we’ve watched our starting pitchers go out and really keep us in there for a win.  Lilly pitched eight innings of shutout ball, I was kind of hoping they were going to let him go all nine and get the complete game shutout, but Piniella doesn’t let our pitcher’s go that long and it’s probably not a bad thing to keep their arms from getting tired here in the final stretch.  Marmol came in a pitched a scoreless ninth and the Cubs went on to win the series against the Astros!  Yay! :)   Let’s hope Dempster can pitch just as well today against the White Sox in our makeup game so that we can start the road trip with a winning record at home.

derreklee30.jpgDerrek Lee continues to lift this team up and carry them.  Had it not been for his two run homerun in the fourth, we might not have won.  At least not in nine innings.  He smacked his 27 on the year and is ending this year with a bang.

I was very disappointed that Yahoo Sports had no pictures of our two amazing catches by the middle infielders.  I love expanded rosters which brought Andres Blanco back to us and we got to see why defensively he is major league material. With a lay out catch that very well saved a run and his range.  When Theriot gets a day off, which is not often considering this is his third and his only when he wasn’t sick with the flu, but when he does get one off I would much rather see Andres Blanco at short as opposed to Aaron Miles.  Then there was the running, sliding into the Astors bullpen catch by Mike Fontenot.  How can they not post a picture of that?  It was a ball that everyone else had given up on, but not Fontenot.  He went after it without regard to himself and it was a great catch!  No thanks to the Astros bullpen who didn’t move a muscle out of his way, I hope he took some of them out. :)

Here is hoping we win today and then can go pound on the Mets, hopefully sweep them this time. Go Cubs Go!

Final Score: Cubs 2 Astros 0

Sori’s Bat Comes Alive In Win!

Thumbnail image for alfonsosoriano35.jpg
It was great to Soriano come through with the game winning homerun after bobbling several plays in left field.  I’m just wondering that if his knee is that bad, why don’t we just get him out of there see about surgery and get that done because Sam Fuld is more than capable of playing left field for the rest of the season and I would like to see his little spark out there.

Ted Lilly pitched a great game, I’ve never seen him keep the ball down so well before and

with the wind yesterday at Wrigley, it’s a good thing he did.

Derrek Lee and Aramis Ramirez are really coming through for the team again and I love seeing it.  These are two amazing players and some of the plays they make defensively…AMAZING!  You can see why Derrek Lee has won multiple gold gloves, but I don’t see why Rammy as none.  He really deserves one.

Ryan Theriot is struggling at the plate right now, hopefully soon he’ll find those singles again.  I wish that we could see Mike Fontenot play more.  The feeling with those two up the middle is just a comfort feeling for me.

It was great to get a W, I don’t get to watch today’s game, but hopefully we’ll get another one.  Go Cubs Go!

End For The Cubs…?

I’m going to make this blog short.  I didn’t get a chance to blog about yesterday’s game which we won in a large part to Milton Bradley.  I’m not sure which side I sit on with him.  I guess I’ll just wait and see what happens.

Ryan Theriot is still amazing, but I think he had one hit in this series with the Nationals. For us to be successful he needs to hit.  I’m really tired of Mike Fontenot getting double switched for Baker, I feel that if we had stayed with him he would have done well this year.  Even giving him more opportunities off the bench would be good.

Oh well, let’s hope that the series with the Mets goes better and we score some runs.  In my previous blog I mentioned the heart of the order not getting it done.  Today it was mainly D. Lee and Rammy that did it.  Ramirez had a two run homerun and Derrek Lee had a homerun.  So if everyone else would have helped we might have won.  Then there was the terrible call at home that should have been called D.Lee safe and he was called out.  Why did Piniella not come argue it?  They wouldn’t have done anything, but show some fire.  He didn’t do anything.  It was irritating.  Riggleman came out several times in the series to talk to the umpires, that is what we need, a manager willing to fight for us.  Piniella used to be that manager…

Tomorrow will be better.  Go Cubs Go!

Final Score Wednesday: Cubs 9 Nationals 3
