Why Do We Keep Soriano Again?

cubs29.jpg  I didn’t get a chance to blog yesterday.  I knew that we would struggle against the Cardinals, but there were some inexcusable plays in this game.  Like the one in the picture to the right.  What you don’t see is Reed Johnson right next to Soriano.  Theriot, Johnson and Soriano ran for this ball.  Soriano called them off and dropped the ball.  This would have been a much easier play for Johnson, but Soriano called for it.  Theriot’s job when he heard Soriano call for it was to get out of the way and he did that.  There was another play where Theriot ended up way out in left field to catch a ball and Soriano was no where near him.  Now, I expect us to notice things like that because we are Cubs fans, but when the Cardinals commentators are wondering where your left fielder is, that is just sad.  Then there was the bobbled Pujols ball that allowed him to end up at third, he was almost able to go home with the crappy throw that Soriano sent to Rammy.  I’m not even talking his lack of offense because most of the Cubs aren’t hitting right now, but his fielding sucks this year.  That is the one thing I like about Milton Bradley, he may be struggling at the plate, but he is great in the field.  Runs for the balls, dives…whatever it takes.  Soriano just looks at it.  He is so lazy.  Humph.

Thumbnail image for rj3.jpgHere is one of the many reasons why I love Reed Johnson.  He is always in the ivy, no ball is out of his reach and is probably thinking stupid basket. Hehe.  It’s just like Reed to run all out for the baseball no matter where it is hit, like the grand slam he robbed Fielder of in Milwaukee.  He is just an amazing baseball player, maybe we could clone him and put him in left as well. :)

Offensively the Cubs are doing nothing.  You have Theriot with the highest average, because he is amazing, at .294 and he is one of just a few Cubs that are getting hits right now.  D. Lee is still swinging a hot bat and provided us with our only offense yesterday with another three-run homerun.  Harden and Theriot both singling to get on base for it.  I really am tired of reading comments on the Cubs page that we should get rid of Theriot.  Are they watching the same games I am?!  I really don’t think so.  A true Cubs fan has watched him improve every year and I wish he would get the recognition for it from the fans.  Oh well, Theriot fans know that you Can’t Quiet The Riot!!

I won’t get to see today’s game, for some reason it’s blocked, but I am looking forward to coming home and watching This Week In Baseball.  Hoping to see them highlight Fontenot, Theriot and Koyie Hill.  I really hope today we swing better and Lou, do all of us a favor and bench Soriano for the rest of the series, please.

I am upset that Soto is on the DL and he may not even be healthy enough to play in the game I’m going to next month.  They said he might miss a month which would put him past my trip to Colorado. :(  It also hurt us offensively because he was just starting to warm up again.

DeRosa looked better in Cubbie blue!! Cardinal red is so not his color.  Can we see if the Cardinals will trade Soriano for DeRosa?  Even injured and on the DL he is better for us. You know, I may talk smack on Sori, last year I loved the guy and I wouldn’t dislike him this year if he played out in the field like he wanted to be there.  It’s not even his offense, it is really his fielding.  Yesterday was not the first day we’ve seen him make mistakes like that.  Oh and another thing, why do we keep Aaron Heilman?  Oh well, today is a different day and a different game.  Good luck Cubs, pitch around Pujols whenever possible. Go Cubs Go!

Final Score: Cardinals 8 Cubs 3

how do you feel about the idea of playing sori at 2B? get his horrible fielding out from under the pop-ups but keep his potentially opposing batter damage bringing bat in the line up in the sixth hole…sub in fontenot and baker occasionally or trade one and see what you can get. what do you think?

There is no arguement that Sori’s bat can hurt. When he is hot, we need him in the lineup. However, I don’t think 2B is any better for him. From what I understand when he was a second baseman he made more errors than he is in the outfield. Hopefully after the knee surgery he had this year, he’ll play better next year. I think Cubs fans in general have been looking for someone to blame and Sori got the brunt of it, outside of Bradley of course. I just hope next year he plays left better. As for letting one of our second baseman go, I would rather see Baker leave than Fontenot. I like the guys who play hard and Font isn’t always playing well, but he gives it his all and I love that about him.
